Potassium Iodide Usage Instructions
IOSAT TABLETS
(Potassium Iodide 130 mg. Tablets, U.S.P.)
TAKE POTASSIUM IODIDE TABLETS ONLY WHEN PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICIALS TELL YOU.
YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED THROUGH THE
CALVERT COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM.
Indications:
- In an emergency at a nuclear power plant, radioactive iodide could be released into the air.
- Potassium iodide tablets are taken to protect your thyroid in such an emergency.
Directions for Use:
- Take only if directed by State or local public health officials in the event of a radiation emergency.
- People who are allergic to iodide should not use potassium iodide tablets.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- In case of overdose or allergic reaction, contact your doctor immediately.
Dose:
- Adult Dose:
- Take 1 tablet (130 mg.) by mouth once a day for two days.

Who can take Potassium Iodide Tablets?
Anyone who is not allergic to iodide.
Side Effects:
• There are no adverse side effects in the doses recommended for protection of the thyroid from radioactive iodide.
