Maryland Fish Consumption
Fish are an important part of a healthy diet. Some fish, however, contain potentially harmful amounts of contaminants such as mercury, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and banned pesticides. People who enjoy eating fish can get the benefits of fish and avoid the risks by following fish consumption guidelines from U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE). Fish consumption guidelines are particularly important for women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, nursing mothers, and young children.
